Dr Pangiras Michael

I remember the time I had when i was doing my first year, second semester in UBD, I thought that I would surely have no chance to move on because during that time, I was failing in math tests. If it wasnt because of maths, I would have scored in my overalls grrr..

I didnt enjoy my first semester at first, with my geo teacher jus did the talking and talking and I wasnt used to that kind of "presentation" (though I passed and got a B lol ). So I was sitting and chatting with my friends, whilst waiting for this lecturer called "Dr Pangiras Michael" for Human Geography and I knew right away that this subject was gonna a bore to me because its human geography, I hated that subject ever since O level and A level.

Suddenly this one lecturer came in and started to descend down the steps and he stood right in front of me. He was tall, and a bit old but for some reason, something told me that he wasnt an ordinary lecturer. Without me knowing it, I started to like that lecturer.

His unique introduction to every lesson made me feel interested to know him more.

There was this one time we had a tutorial with him, and he was explaining the "vicious cycle of poverty" and everyone was for some reason wasnt interested. Funny thing was that everytime I stared at him as he closed his eyes and continued explaining the cycle, I started receiving this series of images inside my head about the life of a farmer in rural areas. Everytime I looked away, the images tend to fade away but when I look at him, I started receiving the images again !!

Creepy.

I was a weak student at that time and I think if it's not because of Dr Pangiras Michael's motivational quote, I wouldnt be able to stand on both of my feets til now.

His epic motivational quotes:

"I know that you guys arent good at English but relax, once you reach your final year, your english is going to be smoooothh like mine haha"

"It seems that you understand a lot about society and I enjoyed marking your essay. Well done"

"YOu still have the chance to get second class honor. Just do your best"

THough these quotes look trivial to some of you but they meant a lot to me.

Dr Pangiras.

If only you are still alive...

If only you are able to say hello to me early in the morning where everyone was still sleeping..

I would see you everyday in your office..

Seeking for your advice and helps.

Dr Pangiras Michael- the irreplaceable ones.

  1. Dear Aaron,

My name is Geraldine and Dr. Pangiras was my father. I stumbled upon your blog entry while randomly googling his name this morning at 2am ( I often do this when I miss him). Knowing how much he means to you, even after this long, truly warms my heart. Thank you for remembering his kindness, his patience, and his passion for education and especially, his students. It was through his example that He inspired me to pursue a career in the tertiary teaching industry. He has and will always be my inspiration, and I hope he continue to inspire you. Take care, and God Bless.
